Home Study Update / Delay

Well, we've hit another bump in the road. The US embassy in China decided to abruptly change the rules regarding home study updates / addendums. Our original home study needs to be updated because we are adopting a child that is older than what we originally stated and also the wording needs to be very specific regarding her special need. They used to let families hand carry the update to China, but now they are requiring us to first send it to USCIS in Detroit, who then sends it to Washington, who then cables it to China. This could delay us for weeks! We could receive Travel Approval any day now, but now we cannot make any travel plans until our updated home study reaches China. So frustrating!

  4. Double check that your updated HS is in the correct "format" also. We submitted a new one (switched from up to 2 yrs old to up to 8 yrs old) to Atlanta on August 6, and it was rejected because it was an addendum, not an update.
    Good luck!
